Splitting the Mind

1 minute read

I wanted to write this quick and to the point article on mantras/repetitive prayer.

One suggestion is to say in your mind a repetitve prayer and you will if you continue that prayer be able to split your mind such that you carry out your normal affairs whilst at the same time continuing with the prayer.

Priests and some Buddhists do this with their prayers of “Heavenly Father send us thy grace” and “om mani padme hum” repeated endlessly in the mind.

I know that you can continue to split the mind into more and more segments such that you can have one part of mind reciting a prayer, another in meditation and another doing daily tasks for example.

Of course this isn’t easy to achieve and it takes great efforts to split your mind into different segments.

However, this state of having split minds is a valuable one to achieve and is worth the effort if you are willing to progress.

The repetitive prayer can be anything, but it should mean something to the individual and advisavly it should have only a few syllables.

Om mani padme hum roughly translates to the triple gem in Buddhism, which is The Buddha, the Dhamma and the Sangha - it is said that those who recite this prayer/mantra that no harm can come to them.

However, I can’t emphasis enough that it takes a while to split the mind into different segments, but if you continue to recite your prayer or meditate you will find that your mind will naturally split into two.

You could go on and recite multiple repetitive prayers in your mind whilst meditating, whilst conducting daily affairs, but it takes a while to correctly split your mind into different segments.

You should also only seek to do this when you are feeling fit and well.
